I have been working with clients in the field of mental health for over 20 years. I help people identify stuck patterns, appreciate areas of personal resilience, and move forward on a path toward fuller living.
I currently work with clients age 18 and older. My formal education includes a B.A. from Brown University, a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Syracuse University (with special emphasis on family systems approaches), and pre- and post-doctoral fellowships affiliated with Dartmouth and Harvard medical schools (including post-doctoral fellowship in McLean Hospital's adolescent Acute Residential Treatment milieu). My research focus in graduate school concerned socialization through stories in family systems and narrative processes as they relate to identity and change. Over the years, my professional roles have included consulting to private and public schools, contract work within a U.S. Navy Warrior Health Clinic, and managing the child team in a community mental health clinic. My work, also deeply influenced by my personal practice of yoga and meditation, has helped survivors of abuse and war-related violence, families in crisis, people experiencing a wide range of life transitions, as well as other psychotherapists who seek guidance and support. Creating a safe space for all with sensitivity to systemic and contextual stress and trauma (e.g., racism, sexism, exclusion based on "difference") is an ethical priority for me. Being fully present as a compassionate witness is my consistent intention.
Like my clients, I have experienced many of life’s twists and turns through joy and grief, and I choose to move forward with self-awareness, engaging in deep self-exploration as needed. I have been particularly inspired in recent years by Buddhist Psychology and by opportunities for deep play and life celebration in community with others. As I have learned to combine diverse practices to explore and shift my own energy, I have enjoyed an increased ability to reconnect with joy and laughter, regardless of my external stress level.
I now share this knowledge and healing wisdom by offering workshops that are in alignment with my study of family systems and group processes through my formal training in Clinical Psychology, as well as my study of yoga-related arts at the Kripalu Center and the YogaLife Institute of New Hampshire and participation in Authentic Women's Circles. My workshops integrate Western science and Eastern self-healing practices, creating a transformative mind-body-spirit experience.
When we honor all of our feelings and express ourselves authentically without judgment, we become freer to connect with deep joy! Life can be painful, but resilience is always possible. Please contact me for witnessing, support and encouragement on your healing journey today.
